Sexton cottage St Stephen's Newtown

As a church we are committed to our local community and to valuing the environment. The Cottage in the Graveyard Community Garden was established in April 2009 as a joint partnership between St Stephens Newtown and the local community to express these values. The community garden meets at 10am on Saturdays.

We have four large garden beds, including a dedicated permaculture space, and four more planned for this spring. We also have chickens who have just moved into their lovely new (enormous) chicken shed. We are organic and low-dig, mainly growing vegetables and herbs to share between all gardeners. We mostly grow from seed. If you are interested in joining the Cottage Community Garden then come along and have a chat and join the fun.

How to find us

We are situated behind the old Sexton’s Cottage (pictured) within the grounds of Camperdown Cemetery, although not in the cemetery itself!

You can enter via Church Street. Turn left/right at Holy Sheet and walk down two blocks to the entrance to the Church and cemetery. The Cottage Community Garden is on the right behind the small cottage and the (off) white picket fence.
