DAY 11
READ PHILIPPIANS 2:9–11
What kind of leader would make you bend your knee in respect? It used to be the practice that when you were in royalty's presence, you had to show honour and submission by being low and bowing your head. It’s possible to imagine being in front of a mighty king and wanting to bow… but even then, we don’t do such things very often. This line in the carol talk about bending the knee, bowing lowly to a …. a baby!! They were so convinced that this was the promised king of the world, God’s chosen one, that they were ready to bow from the very beginning… even as he cried and pooped as a helpless baby.

The New Testament says the ultimate reason to bow before Jesus is because the one who made the universe made himself small to be like us and would serve us… into our greatest need - dying on the cross to save us from our sins. This is a king that came not to be served but to serve. And God raised him from death so that everyone would recognise just how amazing this servant king is!
