READ LUKE 4:14-21
Exciting days begin with exciting announcements. When you wake up on Christmas morning, someone will call out, "Merry Christmas!" Or when the clock is ticking over to New Year's Day, everyone shouts "10, 9, 8 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy new year!" Well, 2000 years ago there was a very exciting day that everyone had been waiting for. The day when Jesus would begin his work. People knew God's messiah was on the way, and that he would do all sorts of amazing things. So when Jesus was ready to go, he made a big announcement to kick things off. He went into a synagogue (kind of like a church) and readout some verses from the book of Isaiah. He said, "God has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoner!" What a huge announcement! And best of all, it was true. Jesus did set people free from all sorts of bad things. From sickness, from blindness, and from sadness. And when he died on the cross, he set us all free from our sins. So when we announce "Merry Christmas!" this year, let's remember this other big announcement - in Jesus, there is true freedom!

As a family how can you be ready to announce to those around you  'Merry christmas'? Can you make a sign to hang out, plot how on Christmas you can say Merry christmas to each other in the most fabulous, fun way.
